Great Lakes Finesse Micro Series: Finesse Baits Designed for High-Pressure Markets

Designed by a group of hyper-competitive tournament anglers, Great Lakes Finesse makes products built for high pressured fish that shy away from traditional baits.

As the Bait Finesse System (BFS) category matures in the North American market, specific product lines have emerged to support the technique. Among these is the Micro Series from Great Lakes Finesse (GLF), a collection of soft plastics and terminal tackle designed for high-pressure scenarios.

The series, which scales down GLF’s standard profiles by approximately 40%, targets a specific subset of the angling demographic: those fishing in clear water, post-frontal conditions, or heavily pressured fisheries. For the retailer, the line represents a distinct inventory category focused on “micro” presentations, separating it from standard finesse options.

The Design Philosophy

The Micro Series addresses the “subtle” requirement of finesse fishing through two primary design features: size and finish.

Unlike standard gloss finishes, the Micro Series utilizes a matte surface on its plastics. This is intended to reduce underwater glare and silhouette distortion, a factor often cited by anglers targeting sight-feeders in high-visibility water. Additionally, the reduction in size—without a loss of structural detail—allows the baits to match the hatch of smaller forage like young-of-year baitfish and invertebrates.

Application Overview

The lineup consists of four primary SKUs, each covering a specific section of the water column:

  • 2″ Juvy Craw
    • A bottom-contact profile. The claws are designed for low-impact displacement, suitable for slow dragging or swimming in the lower water column.
  • 1.7″ Snack Craw
    • This is the smallest profile in the range. It is primarily used for Ned rigging or as a compact trailer for finesse jigs when a minimal footprint is required.
  • 2.25″ Drop Minnow
    • A straight-tail profile designed for drop-shotting. Its slender construction allows for action with minimal rod movement, also functioning as a trailer for underspins.
  • Micro Sneaky Underspin
    • A terminal tackle component that integrates a small blade into a compact head, allowing for a reaction-style presentation using ultra-light gear.
