Explorers Club Honors OCEARCH Leader Chris Fischer

Expedition Leader and Costa Partner Chris Fischer recently accepted the prestigious Lowell Thomas Award from The Explorers Club. Six individuals were chosen this year for their achievements and exceptional contributions in the fields of exploration, scientific research, and who are dedicated to the principles of The Explorers Club.  The prestigious club was founded in 1904 in New York City and seeks to encourage public interest in exploration and the sciences through support of expeditions and education.

The club has a fascinating history in its own right, having been founded by a group of legendary explorers, professors and journalists.

Since 2007, Fischer has led 20 global expeditions to advance science and education while unlocking the many mysteries surrounding the life and history of white sharks and other giants of the oceans. He has facilitated millions of dollars in collaborative ocean research, supporting the work of over 70 scientists from more than 40 international and regional institutions. For more information about OCEARCH’s mission to tag sharks and other ocean giant species, visit https://www.costadelmar.com/inside-costa/ocearch-expeditions.

The OCEARCH also has an interactive map of their expeditions on their website, OCEARCH.org.
