AFTCO made another statement at this year’s ICAST New Product Showcase with Best of Category wins in Cold Weather Technical Apparel, Warm Weather Technical Apparel, and Men’s Lifestyle Apparel.
Over the past three years, AFTCO has won seven out of the nine New Product Showcase awards in the apparel categories, solidifying their place as the leader in innovative fishing tackle apparel.
Last year, the company’s Yurei Air-O-Mesh Performance Shirt and Overboard Submersible Shorts padded their trophy case in Santa Ana, California. Let’s take a look at the trifecta of new products taking home ICAST gold for AFTCO this year.

A pair of boardshorts that cares about the environment? You got that right. This is AFTCO’s first dive into recyclable material integrated within our technical fishing clothing. Saba recycled boardshorts are made out of sustainable 88% recycled polyester and 12% spandex fabric that is feather-light. In fact, these are the lightest boardshorts ever built by AFTCO. To accomplish this, we reduced the amount of seams and other unnecessary trims to deliver maximum comfort with a “Seam-Free” construction.
A Claim to the Crown
“AFTCO was actually the first fishing clothing brand to integrate a reinforced pliers pocket and utilize a durable, stain resistant fabric in our shorts all the way back in 1989,” adds AFTCO Marketing Director Matt Florentino.
“However, we did shift the focus of our product offering with our Fall 2018 line as we expanded into outerwear and fleece categories to meet the needs of freshwater anglers. At the same time, we launched a new ‘Any Fish, Any Water’ tagline that was the driving force of our end goal of catering to all anglers while expanding beyond our traditional saltwater-driven product lines.
“The most recent product collection displays this progression to meet the needs of all anglers in a big way. The pile of ICAST New Product Showcase awards helped solidify our efforts, further inspiring us to keep the foot on the pedal. As we enter 2020-2021, we now have a major expansion of waterproof outwear, cold weather fleece, and warm weather sun protection solutions for men, women and youth.”
According to Florentino, AFTCO is continuing to ramp up product development with new innovations in their skunkworks department, with the goal of producing even better functional products that deliver on their ‘Any Fish, Any Water’ mantra.
