The American Sportfishing Association (ASA), the trade association representing the sportfishing industry, celebrates the recent advancement of three critical pieces of legislation by the House Natural Resources Committee, reinforcing their commitment to the industry, the recreational fishing community and promoting sustainable fisheries management. H.R. 8704, H.R. 8811 (America’s Conservation Enhancement Reauthorization Act of 2024) and H.R. 5103 (FISHES Act) are vital for ensuring the health of our fisheries and protecting our sportfishing heritage.
ASA President Speaks at Briefing to Address Impacts of U.S. Trade Policy on $1.1 Trillion Sector
The Outdoor Recreation Roundtable hosted a virtual briefing (recording available here), gathering industry leaders to discuss the impacts of U.S. trade policy on the $1.1 trillion outdoor recreation economy.
The panel, which included ASA President Glenn Hughes, detailed the economic and operational challenges facing their organizations and businesses as a result of ongoing trade uncertainty.
National Fish Habitat Partnership Launches New Projects and Accomplishments Dashboard
The National Fish Habitat Partnership (NFHP) launched a new, publicly accessible Projects and Accomplishments Dashboard highlighting fish habitat projects funded and supported by NFHP partners.
The Dashboard allows users to explore project locations via an interactive map. Users can view details about individual projects and summaries of NFHP accomplishments using various filters such as project year, location, and focus. Click below to visit the dashboard.
ASA Staff Fishes in Women’s Kenai Classic
ASA Vice President of Communications, Mary Beth Long, joined the Kenai River Sportfishing Association for the 2024 Women’s Classic. Long fished alongside industry leaders, conservation professionals and policymakers, including Assistant Administrator for NOAA Fisheries, Janet Coit, at the three-day event. KRSA is a long-time partner of ASA and has been a staunch advocate for the recreational fishing community in the region.
