ASA Holds Webinar on Fishing Equipment Federal Excise Taxes

Last week, ASA held a webinar on the federal excise tax on fishing equipment, which is paid by manufacturers and importers of fishing tackle and goes into the Sport Fish Restoration and Boating Trust Fund. These funds are then used on projects to create more and better fishing opportunities, like habitat restoration, maintaining fish hatcheries and building boat ramps. Our webinar featured several experts in excise tax compliance and walked through the nuances of how fishing tackle companies can ensure they are meeting their excise tax obligations. Watch here

California Department of Fish and Wildlife Announces Closure

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife announced the closure of the nearshore groundfish fishery in the Mendocino, San Francisco and Central Management areas. The closure was established after estimates showed that recreational takes of quillback rockfish have already exceeded 2023 limits. It is set to commence on Friday, September 1st. Learn more
