ASA Staff Attends ASMFC Meeting

Mike Waine, Atlantic Fisheries Policy Director, and Gary Jennings, Keep Florida Fishing Director, attended the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) meeting in Arlington, VA on August 6-8. Jennings also serves as the Governor’s Appointee Commissioner for the State of Florida.

The agenda included discussions on the management of Atlantic striped bass, cobia, and menhaden.

ASA’s Mike Leonard Reappointed to American Fisheries Advisory Committee

Vice President of Government Affairs, Mike Leonard, was recently reappointed to the American Fisheries Advisory Committee. Established by Congress in 2022, the committee makes recommendations for Saltonstall-Kennedy priorities and grant award funding. The Saltonstall-Kennedy fund provides grants or cooperative agreements for fisheries research and development projects addressing various aspects of U.S. fisheries. Leonard is the Region 5 Recreational or Commercial Fisher/Experience Growing Seafood Representative.

PFAS Webinar

With the Environmental Protection Agency’s PFAS reporting requirements due in less than a year, many in our industry have questions about this important topic. On August 22 at 1:00 PM ET, ASA will hold a webinar to provide ASA members with an overview of the PFAS Reporting Rule.

James Pollack, regulatory lawyer at Marten Law, will join ASA staff to share his extensive knowledge of PFAS regulatory compliance at the federal and state levels.
