NFWF Accepting Proposals for Vessel Strike Avoidance Technology
The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation is soliciting proposals to promote the development and adoption of innovative technologies that can help reduce vessel strikes of the endangered North Atlantic right whale. NFWF anticipates awarding up to approximately $6 million in grants through this solicitation, pending availability of funding.
Lead Tackle Ban Defeated in Minnesota, For Now
The Minnesota Legislature adjourned without passing a proposed statewide ban on lead tackle. ASA and our partners proudly worked with lawmakers to ensure that the ability for anglers to continue using traditional tackle was protected for another year. ASA will continue to work with the Minnesota Legislature to educate them on the importance of not unnecessarily restricting lead tackle, should measures like this resurface in the future.
The Great Red Snapper Paradox
The federal season for Atlantic red snapper in 2024 is expected to be maybe two days, or perhaps no season at all. However, the data shows us that longer seasons and higher bag limits should be considered, given the abundance of snapper off the coast.
