ACE Reauthorization Act Passes U.S. Senate

Last week, Members of the United States Senate voted in favor of the bipartisan America’s Conservation Enhancement (ACE) Reauthorization Act (S. 3791). This critical legislation includes many priorities for the sportfishing industry, including funding for fish habitat restoration, pollution reduction in the Chesapeake Bay, invasive species management, and the protection of traditional tackle.

Florida Anglers Applaud New 103-day Red Snapper Season

“State management of Gulf red snapper and Florida’s investment in better recreational data via the State Reef Fish Survey has been an absolute game changer. Just a few years ago, the Gulf recreational season was just a handful of days in federal waters, so this 103-day season for Florida Gulf anglers is worth celebrating,” said Martha Guyas, ASA Southeast Fisheries Policy director.

Commission Selects Dr. Debbie Colbert as New ODFW Director

The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission voted unanimously to select Dr. Debbie Colbert as the new ODFW Director. Colbert will lead an agency managing sustainable fishing opportunities while addressing modern conservation challenges affecting fish and wildlife in Oregon.

“Given her exceptional track record of dedicated public service, commitment to science-based management, and understanding of the social and economic importance of natural resource management, I believe that Debbie Colbert is the ideal candidate for this important position” said Larry Phillips, ASA’s Pacific Fisheries Policy Director.
