President Trump Announces Executive Order Elevating Saltwater Recreational Fishing

Last Thursday, President Trump announced the “Restoring America’s Saltwater Angling and Recreation” Executive Order in the White House Rose Garden Thursday night. The order establishes a national policy to elevate marine recreational fishing in federal fisheries management and directs federal agencies to pursue better data and more modern management approaches, strengthen State-Federal partnerships, remove unnecessary barriers to access and advance innovative solutions for American anglers.

“The American Sportfishing Association thanks President Trump for this decisive action to improve management and data collection for America’s saltwater fisheries,” said Glenn Hughes, president and CEO of the American Sportfishing Association. Click the link below to read more.

Congress Authorizes Tariffs of up to 100% on Countries Meeting Specified Criteria Related to Russian Oil & Gas Purchasers and Facilitators of Sanctions Evasion

Congress passed legislation on September 16 authorizing new sanctions on Russia and directing President Trump to impose up to 100% tariffs on all goods imported into the United States from countries that meet specified statutory criteria related to Russian oil and natural gas purchases within 30 days of enactment. President Trump signed the legislation into law a few days later.

The new tariff authority is conditional rather than blanket: it impacts only countries that satisfy the required criteria, and does not give the President general tariff authority beyond them.

Top U.S. trading partners, such as China, India, Japan, Korea, and certain European countries, could be among those subject to the new tariffs, unless they meet the natural gas exception or are granted a “national interest” waiver by the President.

Court Blocks New Mexico PFAS Labeling Rule While Minnesota Reporting Deadline Takes Effect

Last week, a federal court temporarily blocked enforcement under New Mexico’s PFAS labeling law. As the requirements were set to take effect January 1, 2027, the court’s ruling prevents enforcement while the underlying law remains in place. Meanwhile, Minnesota’s initial PFAS reporting deadline took effect on September 15, requiring manufacturers of covered products to submit information to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. Manufacturers granted an extension have until December 14 to complete initial reports.
