“Of course, there’s a lot of thought that goes into creating a bait like the Freeloader, a Mooch Minnow, but equally as important is the right jighead,” said Wheeler. “Shakin’ a minnow has become just an insane technique to catch species all over the country: walleye, largemouth bass, spotted bass, smallmouth bass, and crappie. It has taken fishing by storm. We wanted to create a jig that would allow anglers to take the hottest baits out there and be able to contact the fish at any part of the water column.”
Purpose-built for soft plastic minnow baits like the CrushCityFreeloader and Mooch Minnow, the new VMC Minnow Shaker, features a unique 45-degree line tie – the only jig in the market with this angle – which maximizes the rolling action of the minnow.
“Everybody’s been talking about this rolling action. What’s so good about it rolling?” said VMC pro Dustin Connell. “In my opinion, it’s the most lifelike action. When you have an injured baitfish, he’s not stable. He’s rolling in there. It really draws those fish to him.”
The Minnow Shaker Jig has been thoughtfully designed to solve a problem that has long plagued anglers fishing soft plastics: getting the bait to truly stay on the jig. Dual mono keepers lock the bait in place and keep it there, fish after fish after fish.
“It’s proven. We did our homework. You can catch fifteen to twenty fish on this and never touch your bait,” said Wheeler.
“When I tell you he’s there. He’s there,” said Connell, raving about the dual keepers. “No more glue. Your hands ain’t gettin’ stuck together. I can use a super TPE bait like the Mooch Minnow, and I can also put a Freeloader on easily. It’s gonna help me save a lot more time and catch a lot more fish.”
The Minnow Shaker Jig comes in virtually every weight and hook size an angler could ever dream of. Starting with 1/16 oz and going up to 3/8, with every weight in between, but also each weight is available in a 2/0, 3/0 and 4/0. The reason for such a wide assortment of jigs is to match up the depth as well as the length of minnow, as those are critical elements to properly shake a minnow. Somedays the fish may be 20’ down and eating 3” baitfish so a heavy head with a small hook is needed, whereas other days they may be 2’ down and eating 6” baitfish, so a light head with a large hook is needed.
