ORLANDO — As ICAST attendees head for Super Tuesday’s ICAST On the Water events, Shimano and its associated brands are releasing closely-guarded information on its new saltwater products for this year’s show. Read the details below:
Shimano Terez Rods
Utilizing Shimano’s Spiral X and Hi-Power X technologies, this redesign of the popular Terez saltwater rod series reduces blank twist for amazing control when fighting big fish, along with an incredible strength-to-weight ratio. They feature a unique Shimano aluminum reel seat and Fuji BKW Alconite frame guides and include 12 conventional, nine spinning and two rail rods to handle nearly any saltwater fishing situations.
MSRP: $279.99 casting/spinning, $399.99 rail.
Shimano Stradic FL Spinning Reels
Shimano brings its best technologies to the newly-designed Stradic FL spinning reels series, offered in five sizes to cover all types of freshwater action and more than ready for inshore saltwater use. The reels feature cutting-edge Shimano capabilities such as MicroModule Gear II for unparalleled smoothness and SilentDrive Technology for microscopic tolerance levels to reduce any handle play and eliminate any clicking noise in all moving parts. Shimano’s X-Protect design provides maximum protection in the harshest saltwater environments.
The new Stradic FL reels are in five models – 1000HG, 2500HG, C3000XG, 4000XG and C5000XG. MSRP: from $199.99 to $229.99.
Shimano SLX DC Baitcasting Reels
Shimano’s innovative Digital Control (DC) Braking System technology is now within reach of all anglers and all budgets with the new SLX DC 150 series. Built on Shimano’s now proven SLX platform with an all-aluminum HAGANE Body, the six reels in the series feature the same I-DC4 digital brake control system used on Shimano’s popular Curado DC reels. They are ideal for coastal action targeting redfish and sea trout.
The SLX DC reels are offered in three gear ratios – 6.3:1, 7.4:1 and 8.3:1 – and in both right- and left-hand retrieve. MSRP: $189.99.
Shimano SP ORCA Baby Subsurface Lure
Giving offshore anglers the ability to target finicky pelagic species on smaller baits, Shimano expands its ORCA saltwater lure offering with the SP-ORCA Baby subsurface lure. It slowly sinks in a horizontal position and has a tuna-enticing roll when retrieved with steady jerking motions. The small compact body (90mm) encompasses a heavy center weight attributing to long distance casts.
Available in eight colors. MSRP: $19.99.
G. Loomis IMX-PRO Blue Saltwater Rods
It’s all about targeting oversized fish with not-to-big of gear with the new IMX-PRO Blue saltwater rods, featuring G. Loomis’ Multi-Taper Technology, a performance platform with a focus on weight, balance, sensitivity, and action. They feature unbelievably high strength-to-weight ratios with unique actions designed with a primary focus on Northeast saltwater fisheries – stripers, bluefish, summer flounder/fluke, blackfish/tautog, yet the actions, powers, and lengths offered in the 10 models have added saltwater use applications.
Fuji Fazlite K-Frame guides. Full cork handles. Handcrafted in Woodland, Washington – USA. MSPR: from $350 to $385.
PowerPro Moon Shine Braid
With a special process making it glow when illuminated by a blacklight, the new PowerPro Moon Shine braid benefits both anglers fishing at night to avoid the summer heat, and the fish they are pursuing. Using Super8Slick V2 braid as its core, the Moon Shine braid is targeted to the growing interest in nighttime bass fishing tournaments taking place most notable in Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Texas. With Moon Shine glowing under a blacklight, anglers can see even the smallest line movement and hopefully set the hook more often. Plus the new braid also has applications for others anglers, including any nighttime action when targeting catfish, muskie trolling and surf casting, and be used during day for those who prefer an easy-to-see high-visibility braid.
Available in 8- to 80-pound test – in 150 and 300-yard spools. MSPR: from $20.99
