Putnam County (Florida) Commissioner Ed Taylor died this week at the age of 77, still at his desk. His family reports that he passed of natural causes. Taylor was widely regarded as the savior of Rodman Reservoir, one of Florida’s best lakes for trophy bass–and long a target of environmentalists who hope to see it drained so that the historic Ocklawaha River floodplain can return to natural swamp.
This past year was the 17th time Mr. Taylor, the president of Save Rodman Reservoir, hosted a tournament where the proceeds went to save the dam. Taylor wrote to newspapers and would walk the halls of Tallahassee anytime the dam was threatened.
