Through global conflicts, economic shifts, evolving technology, and dramatic changes in the global supply chain, ROSCO has remained rooted in the belief that quality matters, American manufacturing matters, and the angler deserves the very best.
A Century of Dedication to Anglers

In 1926, three partners from Rome, NY bought the Van Dauber Co., a “box” swivel manufacturer located in Taberg, NY. They incorporated this new company as Rome Specialty Company, Inc or the acronym ROSCO for short. Over the years different product lines have come and gone including landing nets, gaffs, fly reels, archery accessories, leather goods, etc. The principal products that are still produced today are the world’s best snaps, swivels and other terminal tackle components and accessories.
Four generations later, President Jack Butts and his family continue the tradition — proudly keeping production in Rome, New York. While much of the industry shifted overseas, Rome Specialty chose a different path: stay American-owned, American-operated, and American-made.
Butts says “In an era of geopolitical uncertainty, it makes sense to support American-owned and operated businesses. The only true way to secure your supply chain is to buy domestically.”
That philosophy has guided the company for a century.
Built in Rome. Trusted Everywhere.
The fishing tackle industry today is dominated by low-cost imports and offshore production. Yet ROSCO continues to manufacture in the United States — not because it is easy, but because it is right.
Buying American-made tackle isn’t just patriotic — it’s practical:
- Strengthens The U.S. Economy –American-made tackle keeps dollars circulating in local communities rather than offshore accounts.
- Supports American Jobs – Domestic production sustains skilled manufacturing careers and families.
- Improves Efficiency – Shorter lead times, responsive U.S.-based customer service, and stable supply chains reduce risk and delays.
- Protects The Environment – Products aren’t sitting in cargo containers for months at sea, and U.S. environmental standards remain among the strictest in the world.
- Reduces The Trade Deficit – Choosing American-made means one less imported product.
- Delivers Superior Quality – Precision engineering and hands-on quality control ensure performance anglers can trust.
Innovation Rooted in Tradition
While proud of its heritage, Rome Specialty Company has never stood still. Over the decades, the company has refined manufacturing techniques, expanded product lines, and adapted to meet the evolving needs of retailers and anglers alike.
Yet the core principles remain unchanged:
- Quality Without Compromise
- Dependable Service
- American Craftsmanship
- Long-Term partnerships
From yesterday’s tackle boxes to today’s competitive waters, ROSCO has remained synonymous with strength and trust.
The Next 100 Years
Reaching a century is more than a milestone — it is a responsibility.
As Rome Specialty Company looks to the future, the commitment remains clear: protect American manufacturing, support local jobs, deliver unmatched quality, and continue earning the trust of anglers worldwide.
With your continued trust and loyalty, help us serve billions more!
