Pitman Creek Wholesale Announces Expansion

STANFORD, KY — Pitman Creek Wholesale, the nation’s leading fishing tackle distributor has announced it will expand to the Lincoln County Industrial Park located in Stanford, Kentucky. The company has started construction on a 205,000-square-foot warehouse with an additional 200,000 pad for future expansion.

“This expansion brings Pitman Creek full circle. We started with rented space in Stanford in 1993,” said Pitman Creek President/CEO James Coffey. “We are committed to investing in our people, facilities and technology to provide the best customer service in our industry. The footprint of this facility will be one of; if not the largest, distributor facility dedicated to fishing in the US. We will be fully functional in this new warehouse by Fall 2021.”

The distribution center will increase Pitman Creek’s capacity for its growing business. “The new facility will allow Pitman Creek to consolidate our current four locations under one roof while incorporating automations that will improve capacity, speed and accuracy,” Director of Operations Doug McMurry, says “Is critical to move forward in a competitive marketplace.”

The new facility will allow Pitman Creek to maintain its more than 100 current jobs and provide a platform to add more jobs in the future.

“It’s a good problem to have, we have completely outgrown our current footprints”, stated John D. Johnson GM/Chief Operating Officer. “We knew we could not continue to grow and service our customers with our current real estate. Our growth along with our commitment to superior customer service demanded that we expand, and we have been very blessed to start this project.”

The Pitman Creek story begins in 1978 when Don and Marella Stephens started Pitman Creek Wholesale in Somerset, Kentucky near the Lake Cumberland tributary where the company gets its name. Initially the company was a custom lure manufacturer and evolved into a full line tackle distributor. James S. Coffey purchased the company in 1993 and moved the company to Stanford, Kentucky. At that time, the company primarily focused on central Kentucky tackle shops and marinas. Pitman Creek, now located in Danville, Kentucky (with satellite warehouses in Danville, KY and Stanford, KY) supplies fishing tackle to retailers located in 49 states and internationally.
