Gander Mountain Brings Real Fishing to the Minnesota State Fair

ST. PAUL, MN — Years from now, when today’s kids remember the 2012 Minnesota State Fair, they’ll tell their own children and grandchildren tales of the walleye they hooked and landed, on the corner of Randall and Cooper. Minnesota’s own Gander Mountain is bringing a real fishing pond to the Great Minnesota Get-Together, offering kids an opportunity to catch and release walleyes, bass, catfish and other species, for free.

“For years, fair-goers have crowded around the fish tank at the Minnesota DNR booth and have dreamed that they were out on a lake, casting a line into the water,” said Steve Uline, Gander Mountain’s executive vice president of marketing. “In 2012, Gander Mountain is making that dream come true at the State Fair, partnering with KIDFISH. We’re stocking our on-site pond with more than 100 different fish and inviting kids to fish for free.”

The hot giveaway at the Gander Mountain exhibit will be the popular “walleye hat” which was the hit of the 2011 fair, and again at the 2012 Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener. In addition to the walleye and whitetail hats that have been popular in the past, Gander Mountain is offering an exclusive 2012 edition State Fair hat, which is top secret and will be unveiled on the opening day of the fair.

To celebrate their newly-expanded footwear selection at many Gander Mountain stores throughout the nation, the State Fair exhibit will also feature a mountain of shoes and boots roughly 20 feet high, and visitors can enter the “pair-a-day giveaway.” Daily winners will receive free footwear.

In addition, Fair-goers can learn all about Gander Mountain Academy, which offers the public the “Ultimate in Firearms Training”. Gander Mountain Academy is the nation’s first civilian training facility to offer highly skilled instructors, a variety of comprehensive courses, modern multi-media classrooms, a live-fire range, and exclusive virtual simulation technology previously available only to military and law enforcement agencies. Staff from the state’s first Gander Mountain Academy, located in Lakeville, will be on hand to offer training advice and answer questions.

“Gander Mountain is all about enjoying time outdoors with friends and family, so it’s a perfect pairing to once again be involved with the Minnesota State Fair,” said Uline. “The spirit of ‘We Live Outdoors’ is a huge part of what makes life in Minnesota so special, and we are delighted to play a role in the 12 days of State Fair fun.”

Gander Mountain’s exhibit is located on the corner of Randall Ave. and Cooper Street, next to the Progress Center Eco Building. The 2012 Minnesota State Fair is open August 23rd through Labor Day.
