FOR THE SPRING WATERSPORTS SEASON, MAUI JIM DEBUTS WAIMEA CANYON

Lahaina, HI, October 22, 2012 – Water sports enthusiasts who are already longing for the spring boating, fishing, paddling, canoeing and kayaking season can get a jump-start on their equipment upgrades as Maui Jim introduces the 21st style in their new ON THE WATER COLLECTION of sunglasses with hi-tech features to protect eyes during long days on the lake, ocean, pond or stream.

Waimea Canyon (Style #265, $229 US MSRP) arrives in stores this week to join twenty other styles in the collection, including Voyager, Seawall, Blue Water, Surf Rider, Nine Palms, Dorado, Island Time, Canoes, Peahi, Longboard, Stingray, Akamai, Lagoon, Navigator, Offshore, Banyans and Olowalu. Three styles are specifically designed for women, including Palms, Rainbow Falls and Punchbowl. Waimea Canyon is a unisex, mid-size wrap frame made from lightweight, high-grade, injection molded nylon. Its sleek rectangular eye-shape is accented by jutting temple details, resulting in a high-tech look. These sunglasses have special features that are specifically designed for water sports, including wider temples that block the sun, spring hinges for a secure fit and anti-corrosive hardware.

All Maui Jim sunglasses use proprietary PolarizedPlus2® lens technology that protects eyes on both sides of each lens. This technology uses nine layers of protection to reduce 99.9 percent of harmful glare from any flat, smooth, or shiny surface, which makes it possible to see below the surface of water. Maui Jim sunglasses cut 100 percent of all UV rays. Unique, bi-gradient mirror technology enhances protection from light through the top and bottom of each lens – basically, Maui Jim sunglasses squint for you to reduce eye fatigue. Oleophobic lens coatings repel water and grease. The lenses also have scratch-resistant properties.

Waimea Canyon comes in four different frame and lens colors for different light conditions. The Midnight Blue frame with Neutral Grey lenses is designed for bright sunny days. Matte Tortoise or Matte Black Rubber frames with HCL® Bronze lenses are good for variable light conditions. The Black Gold frames features Maui HT® lenses, a high-performance lens for enhanced contrast and color. All Waimea Canyon lenses are made from SuperThin glass that is 20 percent lighter and thinner than conventional glass lenses.

An added benefit of PolarizedPlus2 technology is color enhancement. Maui Jim is the only company to use three rare earth elements embedded in its lenses which, when combined with the glare-protecting elements of each lens, result in significantly truer, more vivid colors.

Waimea Canyon is available with MauiPassport® prescription lenses in powers from +3.00 to -3.50. This style has an eye size of 64 mm; bridge size of 17 mm; and temple length of 125 mm, as well as an 8-base curvature for a close fit.
