Flashin’ Assassin Fishing Lures Secures Utility Patent for Revolutionary Lure Designs

Baton Rouge innovator prepares to expand into fishing tackle market with industry-changing technology.

Baton Rouge, LA — Flashin’ Assassin Fishing Lures, a fast-rising name in fishing tackle innovation, has been awarded a Utility Patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for their groundbreaking method of embedding fish attractant materials directly inside the lead of fishing lures. This exclusive technology sets Flashin’ Assassin apart in the fishing world, giving anglers a unique edge on the water.

The concept traces back over 35 years to when company founder Collier Thornton learned to tie hair jigs from his grandfather, who swore the secret to catching crappie was the silver, holographic flash woven into every jig. Decades later, during a frustrating day on the water, Collier recalled that wisdom — and envisioned combining the proven flash of hair jigs with the versatility of a tube jig.

In 2021, recognizing a gap in the Crappie jig market, Collier began developing a “tube jig” that fused these elements. After 18 months of relentless trial and error, he perfected the process and launched Flashin’ Assassin Fishing Lures, which now offers both Crappie and Inshore saltwater jigs with the flash permanently embedded inside the jig head.

With the utility patent now secured, Flashin’ Assassin is expanding into elite bass lures — including spinnerbaits, bass jigs, and buzz baits — with plans to release the full line to retail markets by January 1, 2027. Unlike conventional lures that rely on rubber bands or wire to hold skirts, Flashin’ Assassin’s patented process locks even slick-finished materials directly into the lead, making them more durable, effective and unlike any competing lure on the market.

The only lure type not covered under the current patent is a crankbait — but Collier is already working on another industry-changing design for that category, with a separate patent in progress.

“From the beginning, our goal has been to rethink how lures are built and make them better, stronger, and more effective,” says Collier. “We’re not just satisfied with making fishing tackle — we are in this to change the game, which we WILL do.”

Remember the name: Flashin’ Assassin is set to make a major splash in the fishing industry, bringing patented innovation from the bayou to tackle boxes worldwide.
