“We understand today’s business climate and that managing inventory and turn is crucial to retail success,” says St. Croix Director of Sales, Dan Johnston. “To this end, we’re excited to announce that we’re cutting our free-freight minimum order value in half, from $3,000 to $1,500, effective May 1, for all dealer orders shipped within the Continental United States.”
John Nelson is Senior Buyer for Thorne Brothers Custom Rod & Tackle in Blaine, Minnesota, one of the largest independently owned full-service tackle shops in the Midwest. “We sold a lot of St. Croix rods last year. To do that, we need to replenish our inventory regularly,” he says. “Now that we can make smaller orders and still get free freight, it means that we can do even better at getting the St. Croix Rods and SEVIIN Reels our customers want. It will help us keep more of our top-selling SKUs in stock and get those special-order rods into our customers’ hands even faster without extra shipping costs.”
While Nelson says the change will have a positive impact to Thorne Brothers’ bottom line and level-of-service to anglers, he says smaller retailers should expect even greater benefits from St. Croix’s new reduced minimum.
“I can see how the benefits would be amplified for smaller dealers with less inventory and less revenue,” says Nelson. “Now, dealers can order, say, ten to 15 rods without freight costs, as opposed to 20 or 30 like before. It allows dealers to take smaller bites throughout the season that results in having the rods and reels anglers come in looking to buy on their sales floor without paying shipping costs. It’s definitely a better tool in the tool bag for sales.”
