Big Rock Sports Group Set to Acquire Maurice Sporting Goods

TAMPA, Fla.— According to sources, Peak Global Holdings LLC, the parent company of Big Rock Sports, is set to acquire Maurice Sporting Goods by the end of 2018.

The transaction is still pending, and must navigate a web of closing conditions. However, a letter of intent has been signed by Peak Global Holdings. Under the proposed terms, Maurice Sporting Goods would operate as a standalone subsidiary of Peak Global Holdings, becoming a sister company of Big Rock Sports.

Maurice Sporting Goods brings private label brands Danielson, Rivers Edge, Shoreline Marine, and South Bend under the portfolio of Peak Global Holdings, which already operates private labels like Calcutta. The move would further solidify Peak Global Holdings as one of the premier sporting goods distributors in North America.

It’s estimated that the combined Maurice-Big Rock group would serve more than 20,000 retailers in the U.S. and Canada.

The 94-year old Maurice Sporting Goods is a mainstay in the sportfishing world; however, the company has faced a customer relations nightmare during 2017, following a series of purported missed payments to suppliers. At least one of those manufacturers, Ardent Reels, has taken Maurice to court.

However, a lifeline could be on the way, as another one of North America’s leading tackle distributors looks to further its expansion. Less than a month ago, Big Rock Sports announced the acquisition of Canadian distributor Redl Sports Distributors, Ltd. Now, they’ve got their sights set on Maurice.
