Arizona’s Free Sportfishing Program Registration for Educators Ends Friday

The Arizona Game and Fish Department is pleased to offer our “Sport Fishing Education Program” to all Arizona educators who work with grades three and above. The Department utilizes Sport Fishing Education contract instructors, as well as qualified Department employees to conduct a number of Sport Fishing Education programs for schools throughout Arizona.

  1. Classroom instruction is a one hour presentation conducted at your school location. It provides information on Native Fish and Sport Fish of Arizona, fish biology and habitat requirements. It also covers fishing safety, ethical considerations, fishing regulations and basic fishing techniques. Each participating classroom will receive fishing related educational handouts to distribute to each student.
  2. Field instruction is a three to four hour, hands-on fishing event at a nearby body of water. All equipment is provided and normal fishing license requirements are waived. There is no charge for this program, although schools are responsible for transporting students and staff to the fishing location. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend the field instruction (fishing field trip).

Each year the Arizona Game and Fish Department receives many more applications for Sport Fishing programs than it has staff or resources to accommodate. To provide equal access to this program, the Department has implemented an online application process, followed by a random drawing to fill the available number of school group slots.

Application Deadline:
School groups must apply online before 5:00 p.m., Friday, September 13th, 2013. Submitting your application is just the first step in the drawing process and is not a guarantee that your group will receive a program.
