Greetings scruffy nerf herders. The day has finally arrived that some of you have been waiting for since 1983—the day that you finally get to find out what happens to Luke Skywalker after Return of the Jedi. What does that have to do with fishing? Not much of anything. But that hasn’t stopped our beloved industry from getting more excited than a R2 unit struck with a blaster bolt about this week’s Star Wars The Force Awakens release.
Here’s a look at how some manufacturers and publications are celebrating the week on social media. Let us know what you think about our winners or who we might have missed. And if you’re feeling nostalgic, head over to the Nerdist’s Star Wars Rewatch review of every film in the series thus far.
6. Simms Fishing
Any time you wear a wookie mask and waders, you qualify for a “best of” list. Wise men know to let the wookie win.
5. Livingston Lures
These are not the fish you are looking for. Livingston scores big points on a take from the classic scene in the original 1977 Star Wars starring Sir Alec Guinness. It’s one of our first interactions with stormtroopers, and a great way to keep nosey fishermen off of your favorite spot.
4. St. Croix Rods
3. Ice Fishing
The Battle of Hoth is widely regarded as the greatest battle scene in all of the Star Wars movies, and barring something completely unexpected and mind-blowing in The Force Awakens, it’s set to stay that way. What you might not have noticed in the original Battle of Hoth was ice fishing pioneer Brian “Bro” Brosdahl using his Sith powers for sport amongst the cacophony of the attack on the Rebel base.
2. IFISH w/ Tackleworld
This is what happens when you get bored in the Dune Sea. Hopefully he catches a Sarlacc. Having a real stormtrooper in a real photo on the actual ocean bumps this post up to numero dos.
1. Fly Fishing with a Light Saber
Nothing could be cooler. Nothing. Extra points for making a video.
