Pitman Creek Hosts Fall Show, Announces Award Winners

Sevierville, Tenn. — We all want to fish, have fun and do good business. The Pitman Creek Wholesale 24th Annual Fall Dealer Show, Oct. 9-11, made all three things happen earlier this week.

The festivities started with a 54-boat industry bass tournament won by Bassmaster Elite Series pro David Mullins (Doomsday Tackle) and his dealer partner, Waylon Wheelis of Taterbugs Sporting Goods in Farmersville, Louisiana. Second place went to Crispin Pawley (Strike King) and Jack Watkins of Leisure Time Outdoors in Swansea, Illinois. Third place was Michael Neal (Cashion Rods) and Matt Prichard of Prichard Outdoors in Grayson, Kentucky. There was even a poker tournament on Monday night that was won by FLW Tour pro Scott Canterbury.

The business took place on the show floor as more than 100 manufacturers were represented. Everyone had new gear to show off to the dealers, and all reported strong sales.

At the Best of Show awards, there were eight categories covering the gamut from rods, reels and line to hard lures, soft lures and jigs to terminal tackle and accessories.

Some of the winners may look familiar. Trapper Tackle and Cobra Storage System also took top honors at ICAST this year. Others fared better among Pitman Creek retailers than they did with the ICAST media.

And that’s a very big deal. Since the voting at ICAST is dominated by media, retailer tallies at the Pitman Creek show provide critical information to manufacturers. The people voting at dealer shows are the ones who must buy and stock the new products before consumers get to see, hold and buy them. If the dealers don’t like the new stuff, it won’t reach stores or angler tackle boxes.

The big winner at Pitman Creek was Lew’s, which won Best Reel and Overall Best of Show with the Mach Speed Spool. Doomsday Tackle also claimed serious bragging rights after claiming Best Rod (The 47) and Best Soft Lure (the D-Hop 75).
