Wreck Pond, Fisherman’s Cove, Silver Bay—the names seem straight out of Treasure Island. But the locations are real, and they’re all tucked along New Jersey’s Atlantic seaboard, just south of New York. They dot the landscape around the town of Manasquan and the home of a marine electronics company that’s left a footprint there for over 50 years.
This company, though, doesn’t carry the corporate cliche so often attached to the big budget world of marine electronics. The name starts with a ‘W’, not a ‘G’ or ‘L’ or ‘H’. Their name is Win-Tron Electronics. And they come with a bargain, their own treasure of sorts: wholesale prices on brands you know and love.
Decades of Relationship Building
Founded in 1974 by Bill Winder, the company has spent decades building relationships with a who’s who of electronic vendors in the fishing industry. Their warehouse reads like a catalog of toys to suit any angler’s needs. Major players like Garmin, Furuno, Simrad, Lowrance, Raymarine, and Humminbird are all represented at wholesale prices. Essentials from brands like NavPOD, OceanLED, Fusion, Vexilar, and Minn Kota also join the bunch, rounding out the highlights in a dealer-only website that links you to Win-Tron’s all-human support team.
“We are not just selling boxes,” says Win-Tron President Eddie Winder. “We pride ourselves in providing our dealer base with strong customer service that compliments the quality products that we offer. To that, we strive to provide unmatched service and complete product support.”
Winder says the company’s purchasing department spends countless hours securing low pricing from manufacturers, leveraged in part by a 14,000-plus dealer distribution base in the marine industry. “Wherever they can find a value for our dealers, whether that big special purchases or closeouts, or even remanufactured deals, we find them and feature them in our weekly email sales blast.”
That blast is likely something that Eddie’s father, Bill, could never have imagined back in ’74, when he founded the company just up the road in Spring Lake Heights, New Jersey. In the decades since Bill’s dream came to fruition, the world has changed around the seaboard distributor. The internet brought not only the newsletter, but also eCommerce, downloadable catalogs and product videos, transforming the industry into a place where business could be—but, perhaps, shouldn’t be—conducted impersonally.
For that reason, Win-Tron still fosters an old school, New Jersey approach to doing business. A phone call puts you in touch with a person, not an automated system. The sales team? It’s comprised of people who love the marine industry, who are experienced and well-trained in the products they sell. That approach, Winder says, allows Win-Tron to step outside of the office and offer dealer support that they feel is unmatched in the industry.
“I promise that you will not find a distributor that does as much to support their dealers’ sales efforts as we do,” Winder adds. “If you have a special sales or promotional event, we’ll jump in and help in any way we can.”
